Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect what we need to show you local events and connect you with friends. Your RSVPs are only shown to friends, and only if you choose. We don't sell your data. You can delete your account any time.

What we collect

• Account: your email, name, handle, and password or sign-in method.
• Profile: your photo, bio, area, and the categories you like, if you add them.
• Activity: events you RSVP to (Going or Interested), people and curators you follow, lists you make or follow, events you post, comments, reports, and your settings.
• Location: if you tap "Use my location" or pick a place, we save that location and its label to your account to show nearby events. For visitors who aren't signed in, we may guess a city from your IP address to show local events; that guess isn't stored.
• Device and usage: pages you view, events you open, your browser and device type, and IP address, so we can keep GoingTo working and secure.

Who can see what

• Name, handle, photo: anyone. Edit them in Settings.
• Full profile: anyone, or only friends if your profile is private.
• Who you follow and who follows you: signed-in members, or only the counts if you turn the "Show who I follow" switch off.
• Your RSVPs (Going, Interested): only your friends (mutual follows), and only if "Show events I'm going to" is on.
• Your comments: signed-in members only. Delete them any time.
• The "Going" tag next to your comments: only your friends, and only if you share RSVPs.
• Public lists and picks (curators): anyone. Edit or delete the list any time.
• Your email, location and settings: only you and GoingTo staff.

Blocking someone hides your activity from them and theirs from you.

How we use it

• Show you events near you and ones you're likely to enjoy.
• Show your friends' plans to you, and yours to them if you allow it.
• Suggest people you may know, based on things like mutual friends and events in common. We never show which events you share.
• Send the emails and notifications you've chosen.
• Keep GoingTo safe: prevent spam, review reports, enforce our Terms.
• Understand how GoingTo is used so we can improve it.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with services that help us run GoingTo, under agreements that limit how they use it:

• Hosting and database providers that store and serve GoingTo.
• An email delivery service that sends our emails.
• Map and location services that show maps, search places and turn addresses into map locations.
• A payment processor for boosts and ads. We never see or store your full card details.

We measure how GoingTo is used with our own tools. We don't use outside advertising or analytics trackers.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of GoingTo. Events we show from Eventbrite and other sites link back to them; when you click through, their privacy policies apply.

Emails and your choices

We send account emails you can't turn off, like sign-in links and security notices. Everything else, like new-follower and conversation digests and weekly picks, can be turned off in Settings or with the unsubscribe link in each email.

How long we keep it

• Your account information stays until you delete your account.
• Deleted or hidden comment text is kept for 90 days for moderation, then erased.
• After you delete your account, we remove your profile, follows, RSVPs, lists and settings. Published events you posted stay on GoingTo under GoingTo's own account, so other people's plans aren't lost. Your comments become "This comment was deleted." so replies to them still make sense. Backups and records we must keep for legal reasons may last up to 30 days before they're erased.

Your controls and rights

• See and edit your information in Settings.
• Choose what's shared: make your profile private, hide your follows, stop sharing RSVPs, remove followers, block people.
• Delete your comments any time, and your whole account in Settings or by emailing hello@goingto.co.
• Ask us for a copy of your data, or anything else about your privacy, at hello@goingto.co. We'll answer within 30 days.

Adults only, security, changes and contact

• Adults only: GoingTo accounts are for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think someone under 18 has an account, tell us and we'll delete it.
• Security: we use encryption in transit, access controls and limited staff access to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so use a strong password and tell us if something looks wrong.
• Changes: if we change this policy in a significant way, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
