North American landscapes are often described as untouched wilderness up until the arrival of European colonists. The reality is that cultures across the continent shaped the land in ways that not only influenced the land at the time but built entire ecosystems that persist to this day. The legacy of our ancestors lives on in habitats that we still actively maintain. In this class, we will learn the history and cultures that cultivated this continent over thousands of years, and how these traditions can carry us all forward in a changing world. Indoor presentation followed by an outdoor tour. Walking required.
